why is it considered a top tier program if it's so toxic? I got an interview there --is that something we can actually ask the residents about and expect a straight answer? Is asking like, for what reasons are residents let go a legit question? idc about these specific cases per see but 2/4 seems unusual

You have to ask “who” is considering the program as top tier? The truth is most attendings do not waste time considering the “ranking” of a program, because we as informed people involved in the actual field no that such a notion is nonsense. Most of the time a program is spoken about as “top tier” it is simply being discussed by medical students, who frankly have no idea what they’re talking about. It takes several years for rumors to trickle down and for a collective opinion (whether accurate or worthless) to change.

They're a "top" program because they operate incessantly. It's also why they're a "toxic" program, because you are working around the clock. If you're basing where you want to train off Doximity, please reorient yourself. You should consider Pitt if you want to go somewhere where you are operating day 1 and you do not care about the immense workload and pressure that comes with high caseload. It is not for most people.
